Modern ANZAC

Well I haven’t been the best at these blogs, kept forgetting and then remembering at inappropriate times! But I’m going to make an effort from now on for what it’s worth… Assignments have been crazy, life has been busy, you know, the usual score.

The ANZAC assignment has got me really intrigued, I had a great grandfather who fought at the Somme, so although not at Gallipoli, I feel some connection to the soldiers lost in wars that New Zealand has taken part in. I think that that feeling is common among New Zealanders of my generation, as family members who fought in the first World War get further and further away, and also as more families move to New Zealand with no direct relation to our history. ANZAC day is becoming more of a ritual of rememberance of where New Zealand has come from as a country, rather than the specific wars we were involved in. Making a name for ourselves on the International stage, and forming the dominion nation we have today.
